Making a traditional 8 Yard Kilt by hand is a time-honoured tradition and takes between 30 and 40 hours to complete. We use 100% Pure new wool tartans from various weavers in Scotland and we source fine fabrics for the canvas and lining. Our leather straps are cut by hand by our artisan craftsmen Margaret Morrison of Perth and the straps and buckles can be toned specifically to the tartan for a unique look.

A Handmade Kilt is constructed to last more than a lifetime, and you should be able to pass it on with pride to the next generation in your family. Our Kiltmakers at Shilling & Fitz have decades of experience making Military Kilts for the Regiments of the British Army so we understand the importance of how the Kilt should be worn and cared for. 

For many years we have sent our hand sewn Kilts to clients all around the world and pride ourselves on being able to make a Kilt without always having to measure the client in Scotland.  As the Kilt only really requires a few simple measurements, we use photographs to determine body configuration and we can then make tweaks if required. For those Gentlemen with a bit (or a lot) of a tummy, we make certain adjustments to allow the fit of the Kilt to become more flattering.
